Montpelier, VT — This morning, the Vermont House has joined with the Vermont Senate to override Republican Governor Jim Douglas' veto of the same-sex marriage bill, making Vermont the next state to legalize same-sex marriages.

Earlier today, the Senate voted to override the governor's veto, which was issued yesterday.

Just minutes ago, the House joined in voting 100-49 to override the veto.

Previously last week, the House voted 95-52 to approve the bill which was 5 votes short of the two-thirds majority needed for an override.

Supporters of the bill worked all weekend to gain additional support in the House to override the Governor's promised veto.

Vermont joins Massachusetts, Connecticut and Iowa as the states allowing same-sex marriages.
